Southsider, delivers on this, his debut EP. The Invasion is the third release on the newest imprint to showcase the future sound of Chicago house, Ghetto Division Records, and with it, D- 51 aims to prove that these boys are anything but predictable.
“OD,” a dark and horn-filled anthem opens The Invasion with a little bit of mystery and a touch of the latin-inspired sound Ghetto Division is known for. “The Invasion” swoops in, every bit the new take on hard house, but complete with a little bit of an alien feel just right for the EP’s title track. “Titans Theme” is where D-51 pulls some of his favorite styles out of left field with a straight italo / new wave track; a nod to the myriad genres and wide range you can expect from the Ghetto Division crew at large. D-51’s “Wurkaholic” ends his original tracks as a dark techno, tech-house marcher, with twinges of old school ghetto-tech tossed in the blend. The Invasion EP also features some amazing remixes; the first from Chicago house/techno legend Angel Alanis who turns Titans Theme into a playful jacking techno track and adds some acid-house to the mix. While, Austin, Texas’s up-and-coming talent Dubbel Dutch’s take on OD chills the track out a bit, his remix’s syncopated beat and subdued elements make this track perfect for a UK funky set.
Fellow Ghetto Division member Rampage’s remix of The Invasion is straight classic Chicago hard house à la Hyperactive and the 90’s sound.
D-51’s The Invasion EP is just the label’s second solo EP and the third release altogether. You can be sure Ghetto Division Records will deliver some more amazing dancefloor fire in future releases.
