Ghetto Division’s ‘Booty Clappin’ out on Ghetto Division Records Feb 25^nd

All eyes on Chicago! That is, all eyes are on the South Side for a bit of something we like
to call juke. It’s been around for more than a decade and our comrades in Chicago are
having their fair share of attention the world over for this quintessentially Chicago sound
of handclaps and fast feet. And here we have a crew of native Southsiders who are
taking the formula of juke’s tempo, basic elements and scandalous lyrics and showing
how it CAN be done. No one should ever expect more of the same from Ghetto
Division, and the Booty Clappin’ LP is proof positive of that: ten juke-heavy tracks
from a group of producers who grew up with the rules and decided to break every one.
Charlie Glitch’s “Jukework” boasts a talented cutting and creative rearranging of his
own vocals, and D-51’s “Down Low” has got a common club command with an
uncommon use of synths to punctuate. Lorenzo Vektor declaration of “I Am The Shit”
deserves it’s title, with a screwed breakdown to offset a scorchingly fast juke tempo, his
collab with Louie Cue “Drop It Low” hits with enough bass to bounce any sub, and
Louie Cue’s own “Ghettotranced” has a bit of fun with a genre we all love to hate
twisted into some unexpected dancefloor fire. Maddot3 is a name for GD’s MaddJazz,
frequent collaborator MicroDot and GD’s Rob Threezy (or Rob3), and their additions to
Booty Clappin’ “Chipstakin’ “ and “Putacabrona” show that sometimes creativity
comes stripped down and simple or accompanied by enough sirens and horns to
jumpstart a party. “Acid Up” has M-dok taking a page out of house history, adding a
touch of – you guessed it – acid to his juke. Rampage, however has a completely
different inspiration in “Arcadian” – some familiar video game sound effects you’d be
hard-pressed to hear anywhere else. And Sigma rounds the LP out with “Pick That Ass
Up” a track that confirms Ghetto Division knows what they’re doing when it comes to a

It’s Ghetto Division’s SECOND LP, and this time these talented producers give us a little taste of their take on a now-infamous Chicago Style: JUKE! That’s right, the Booty Clappin LP is ten tracks of that salacious South Side sound everyone’s been chattering about. But this crew has their own twist, as they know every classic element of juke and decided to bend the rules as only they could. The result is unexpected and innovative, but then again, what else were you expecting from Ghetto Division?

We’ve put together the Booty Clappin Minimix which is available on Soundcloud and features every track on the LP for your previewing pleasure here. But you can also download the mix here along with a few other goodies about the LP.

The Booty Clappin LP is out Feb 25th and included in the last link is a press release that tells you more about Ghetto Division and the LP. Ghetto Division’s Booty Clappin LP will be available digitally online through Beatport as well as other digital stores. Rampage’s ‘SouthSide Boogie’ out on Ghetto Division Records Nov 2^nd

Ghetto Division records keeps ‘em coming with the third solo EP from none other than the unfailingly astounding Eddie Regalado; or how he is best known, the prolific and notorious Rampage. Hot on the heels of Windy City Nights EP on T&A and the free Conflake Y Platano EP – both collaborations with The Chicago Deadbeats’ Nader – the Southside Boogie EP is full of house and disco-house monsters. Southside Boogie is fourth release on the newest imprint to showcase the future sound of Chicago house, Ghetto Division Records. Each track is a creative combination of the classic elements of disco, house and the filter disco/nu-disco/disco-house style.

The EP opens with “High Ride” a solid disco-house number that eases you into Rampage’s lifelong love affair with disco. “Midnight Groove” picks it up, gives off a bit of an upbeat, housier feel, with a healthy dose of filters. “What’s That Groove” is nothing but high-energy, complete with clipped vocals and piano stabs. The final original track is also the deepest: the smooth, 80’s-inspired “Knights Over Chicago.”

The remixes featured on Southside Boogie are from none other than French wunderkind The Phantom’s Revenge, who transformed High Ride into a chopped up party-rouser as only he could. Fellow native Southsider Vince Melo might’ve made a name for himself as a DJ in the 90’s Chicago scene and might also count his contemporaries among Chicago house legends Lego and CZR. But Vince surely shows off some sharp production chops in giving Midnight Groove an innovative syncopated shuffle, while toning down What’s That Groove enough to accommodate a bit-crushed piano and a call to “Go way back, back into time.”

Though you won’t need time travel to appreciate the fresh take Rampage serves up on an ageless sound, you’d be well-advised to keep your ears ready for a little bit of the future. The future sound of Chicago, that is; deftly delivered by Rampage and Ghetto Division Records.
